Phani Kumar

4:21 AM ET May 31, 2007

MUMBAI (MarketWatch) -- India's economy expanded at its fastest pace in 18 years
during the financial year ended March 31, led by a robust performance of its
manufacturing and services sectors, according to official data released Thursday. But
economists expect growth to moderate this year due to higher interest rates and a
strong rupee, said economists.

Data released by the Central Statistical Organization showed the gross domestic
product grew at 9.4% for the year, up from 9% in the previous year.

"The data is surely an indicator that the economy is moving in a sustainable fashion
towards a higher growth trajectory. It sends a positive signal to the international
community and should attract more capital and foreign fund inflows," said Rupa Rege
Nitsure, the chief economist at state-owned Bank of Baroda.

However, Nitsure added that the likely increase in foreign investment in the country
will "add to the upward pressure on the rupee" and hurt exports.

She also listed hardening interest rates amid high inflation as factors that could
moderate the GDP growth to a range of 8%-8.5% during the current financial year.

The rupee has been strengthening against the U.S. dollar over the past few months
because of strong portfolio and capital investments, making exports from India
relatively more expensive and slowing growth in certain sectors. The dollar traded at
40.71 rupees on Wednesday from a three-year high of 47.04 rupees in July 2006.

Since December 2006, the Reserve Bank of India has raised the reserve requirement
for banks by 1.5 percentage points to 6.5%. It has also raised the repo rate - at
which it lends to banks - by 1.5 percentage points to 7.75% since January 1, 2006
amid high inflation.

"The growth is slightly above estimates and shows that the growth momentum has not
been dented by the tightening measures by the central bank... but there is a slowdown
in interest rate-sensitive sectors such as construction," said D.K. Joshi, principal
economist at ratings agency Crisil.

Joshi said Crisil expects India's GDP growth to moderate to between 7.9%-8.4% this
year.

During the fourth quarter ended March 31, India's GDP grew 9.1% in the fourth
quarter, higher than the 8.7% growth posted during the quarter ended Dec. 31, but
lower than the 10% growth achieved in the year-ago period.

Economists had expected growth of 9.4%, according to a poll of analysts by Dow Jones
Newswires.

I found this stock a short while back by punching in my initials, and it was at .15 then. Since then it has been steadily climbing. Today, it closed at .41. The Company is Bactech Mining Corp. and their website is http://www.bactech.com . I think this is worth checking out.
What attracted me to it was on April 26, they posted a newsletter saying they are seeking 50/50 JV partners. Their audited financial statements were posted on May 1, and they are "exploring copper opportunities".
I'm not so good at this posting here, and don't really know how to verify all the data on a stock, except give you the website so you can do your own dd.
 Brenda

BMW Workers Strike in Eastern Germany As Wage Dispute Escalates

BERLIN (AP) -- Workers at a BMW AG car plant in eastern Germany staged a short strike on Tuesday, escalating a dispute over wages for industrial workers across Europe's largest economy.
More than 1,000 staff at the BMW factory in Leipzig stopped work for an hour on Tuesday morning, the IG Metall labor union said.

IG Metall has announced a wave of warning strikes this week after a third round of wage talks ended Monday without an agreement. Companies to be hit with brief stoppages on Wednesday include Ford Motor Co. and Siemens AG. The talks are to resume next week.

The Gesamtmetall employers federation criticized the stoppages, saying they endangered jobs by damaging German companies' reputations, and accused the union of being set on strike action.

"Whatever we say or propose, IG Metall can't drop its old rituals," it said in a statement.

The union is seeking a 5 percent pay hike and better training for some 3.4 million manufacturing workers across Germany. It says a hike is justified by improvements in productivity and strong corporate profits.

"We have contributed to good industrial development for years with moderate wage deals, and now we want our share," said Sieglinde Merbitz, an IG Metall leader in Leipzig.

But employers argue that wages can be raised by only 1.2 percent plus an unspecified one-off payment. They say a larger increase could damage the competitiveness of German industry and undermine the country's hesitant economic recovery.

Workers at automaker DaimlerChrysler AG and other companies already staged brief warning walkouts earlier in March to step up pressure on employers.

Consolidated Pacific Bay Minerals (CBP - TSXV)

Pacific Bay is a publicly traded company on the TSX Venture Exchange, symbol "CBP". Pacific Bay is a junior exploration company, focused on exploring for uranium and gold in Argentina. The Company's Cerro Solo Uranium project and the Regalo Gold Project are located in the highly prospective Patagonia region of Chubut province. (18.6 million shares out, $0.11 current stock price)

Cerro Solo Uranium Project:
Pacific Bay has discovered several uranium showings on the Regalo property and in late June, announced an outcrop sample assaying 205 ppm uranium. This finding has prompted Pacific Bay to acquire additional claims to expand the Regalo property to protect all of its current uranium showings. The expanded Regalo Project (372 square kilometers) lies just to the north and west of the Cerro Solo uranium mine (estimated to hold 10.3 million pounds of uranium) in central Patagonia which is the subject of increasing international interest.
Pacific Bay has also filed for three exploration permits totalling 300 square kilometres based on favourable geology and proximity to the Cerro Solo, Cerro Condor and Los Adobes uranium deposits. Investors can expect various announcements as this new uranium play unfolds.

Regalo Gold Project:
The Regalo property has extensive gold (up to 1 gram gold) in dry-wash stream sediments and soils throughout the property. The company has recently completed first phase trenching of the Regalo and in the process outlined 4 new zones within the Regalo to focus on. The objective of the first phase was to conduct grid soil sampling, back hoe trench and define potential target zones that can be drilled in 2005. PacBay geologist think that the model for the Regalo gold mineralization may be an entirely new style of gold mineralization for central Patagonia, with the large size potential typical of sediment-hosted gold deposits, similar to Nevada.

In early March, at the Toronto PDAC, a well respected newsletter writer, Jim Steel of Mining Insights.com became familiar with the Regalo project and introduced Pacific Bay to his paid subscribers as "An intriguing Long Term Value Story".

Key Points:
-Well positioned in the Cerro Solo Basin Uranium play
-Uranium showings on Regalo property, now expanded
-Extensive and intensive gold anomalies throughout the property
-Large, complex epithermal alteration zones that are favorable for gold mineralization -Similar to Nevada, USA
-Unexplored new area of Argentina
-Partners with IMA Exploration who have extensive knowledge of this area and great success.

For further information and head to our website at http://www.pacificbayminerals.com
