Vince,
I installed Norton Anti Virus about 6 months ago, and it worked fine for a while. However, as of the last month every time I open up a file, I get a norton error. I tried to unistall it, but it won't let me. Is there any other way to get rid of it from my computer?

what is the error saying?

I recommend using AVG antivirus since it uses very little system resources unlike mcafee and norton.

Download spybot and taskinfo from download.com

Go into taskinfo, right click any files that says norton as a directory and close them

Go into program files , find the norton folder, could be under their company symantec.Delete this

If it says file in use and can't be deleted

Go to spybot, tools and click advance options, than go to the option that says startup. Uncheck everything that has the word norton in the directory or symantec. Also you can check if theres any type of spam/virus starting up when ur computer does.

Restart and try again to delete the norton folderin the program files of your main drive(usually c: drive)

Vince,
I was able to delete all of the Norton files except one. Unfortunately, it is that one file that is causing all of the error pop ups.

Seth

to remove norton you have to go to add and remove programs
in your control panel and not delete manual or you will have to drop the cd back in and uninstall
if you still have problems contact me
I can help you work with norton

I thought he tried to do the add/remove programs.

Sometimes that don't work, i showed him the other way.

Mcafee is alright, but is a very big hog on computer resources.

yeah, it's a pain in the rear. Minystocks, I originally tried to remove it by going to add/remove programs, and it wouldn't, and then I tried the way vince said, and it also wouldn't, and then I finally searched norton on my computer, and tried to manually delete all of the files and they all deleted, except for one. Unfortunately, I can't find the original norton cd, so I can go back and install it again. It's become an extreme hastle, as everytime try to open up microsoft word, I get this gay error report, and then I'll click it, and the error will come up again, and I have to click it 3-5 times before it will finally go away.

seth, did you uncheck the files that start up in spybot?

Get a registry cleaner

registry mechanic is a good program to help fix this problem

Do you have xp pro?
