Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, CIBC.  Right now the Canadian government is not allowing bank mergers, but they're coming imo and when they do I think banking stocks will see significant gains.  All the major banks have their dancing partners lined up.

Dancing partners have been lined up for awhile now , Canadian bank stocks have been a sure thing for quite sometime . The Montreal Canadians would win the "Stanley Cup" every 7 years religiously , same goes for the major Canadian banks . CIBC,TD,Royal etc. can't and won't go wrong . They've kept pace even as bad foreign debts written off . Collect your dividends as share price will always steadily climb . I've used the format successfully in the past , unfortunetely I'm now going with Babe Ruth and USR-ode now . Time to take a calculated chance . Salute

Just let 'em drip drip drip....stocks like this don't get the blood flowing the way a good OTC spike can, or even a Naz stock on the run....but historically it's money in dah bank.

Everyone know what a DRIP is?

Drip Drip Drip....Dividend Re-Invesment Plan...just keep pouring dividends into buying more stock.

The otcalchemist lounge is up...it's a group about finding OTC stocks trading at or near their lows...ones without paid promoters touting them.  AMRE was on the watchlist in March at .01 cent or so.  I halted the watchlist for a bit, and I'm restarting it June 30th.

Reuters news on Canadian Bank mergers....imo they're coming, it's just a matter of when.

Canada's Goodale hopes to consult on bank mergers

Tue Jun 21, 2005 09:17 AM ET
TORONTO, June 21 (Reuters) - Canadian Finance Minister Ralph Goodale hopes to consult with opposition parties on the subject of bank mergers before Parliament is suspended for the summer, he said on Tuesday.

"Before the house adjourns, I expect to consult once again with the opposition finance critics to lay out the scenario about how we might proceed," he told reporters after a speech in Toronto.

Back in March, Goodale said he would deliver his government's long-awaited policy on bank mergers well before the end of the year.

Over $80 now (Canadian) I keep thinking they'll have to do a split at some point.

down 7.55%, creamed might have been a bit harsh...although in dollar terms it was a hefty drop.  I think over the longer term this will be seen as a buying opportunity...It won't suprise me to see CM recover and go beyond 80 by the end of September.

She's coming back a bit this AM....Alot of chatter on TV/Radio and in print about how it's gonna take CIBC a while to recover from this but personally....I don't know.

Their exposure to Enron was a known quantity before taking the charge.  Personally I'm thinking the news put a spook into the herd and that a rebound won't take as long as some are saying.

Regional economic disparities to continue next year, according to CIBC World Markets
Friday February 10, 11:12 am ET

TORONTO, Feb. 10 /CNW/ - Just as they did 30 years ago, sizzling energy prices have spawned huge economic disparities across the provincial landscape, according to the latest issue of CIBC World Markets' Provincial Forecast. Senior Economist Warren Lovely predicts these economic disparities will remain for years to come, with brisk growth in energy-rich Alberta contrasting with a more muted expansion in Canada's industrial heartland.
"Home to the lion's share of Canada's oil and gas resources, Alberta is the poster child for what a red-hot economy looks like," said Mr. Lovely. CIBC expects that Alberta's 7 per cent rate of expansion during 2006 will end up being nearly four times faster than growth in Ontario and Quebec, where energy prices, a strong Canadian dollar and a stateside cooling will weigh.

According to the CIBC report, Alberta's growth advantage will be equally pronounced in 2007. An expectation of persistently high oil and gas prices beyond 2007 means Alberta's economic edge should prove much more lasting than the one it saw in the late 1970s/early 1980s.

Another key provincial energy producer, Newfoundland & Labrador, could legitimately challenge Alberta for the 2006 provincial growth title, as resource production takes its latest step up. Elsewhere, British Columbia should enjoy a non-residential building boom, with sturdy domestic demand leading to a strong economic expansion in 2006-07.

The CIBC World Markets' Provincial Forecast, which contains a province- by-province analysis, is available at http://www.cibcwm.com/research.
